Renewable Resources
In Wisconsin and Michigan, utilities must supply at least 10 percent of electricity purchased by retail customers from renewable resources by 2015. WPPI Energy is far ahead of the curve with sufficient resources in place six years early for meeting these state requirements.

Worthington Wind Turbines 2 & 3

  • A four-turbine project located on the Buffalo Ridge near Worthington, Minnesota
  • WPPI Energy owns 100% of Turbines 2 and 3
  • Plant operator/joint owner – Missouri River Energy Services
  • Generating capacity – two turbines can generate 2 MW
  • Production begins at wind speeds of 7 miles per hour
  • Tower is 325 feet tall from ground to blade tip and weighs 42 tons

Barton I, Iowa

  • Wind energy facility located in Worth County, Iowa
  • Project size – 80 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases 30 MW
  • Owned/operated by Barton Windpower, LLC, an affiliate of IBERDROLA RENEWABLES, Inc.
  • Commercial operation commenced April 2009

Butler Ridge

  • Wind energy facility located in town of Herman in Dodge County, Wisconsin
  • Project size – 54 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases total output
  • Owned/operated by Eurus Energy
  • Commercial operation commenced February 2009

Forward Wind Energy Center

  • Wind energy facility located in Fond du Lac & Dodge Counties, Wisconsin
  • Project size – 99 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases 27.5 MW
  • Owned/operated by Invenergy LLC
  • Commercial operation commenced March 2008

Hatfield Powerhouse

  • Located at the base of Lake Arbutus near Black River Falls
  • Low-impact hydroelectric plant
  • Generating capacity – up to 7.2 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases total output of the project
  • Constructed in 1907 and later abandoned for 13 years, the plant was refurbished and put back into service in 2001

John Street Hydro

  • Hydroelectric facility owned by Kaukauna Utilities, a WPPI Energy member
  • Generating capactiy – up to 535 kW
  • WPPI Energy purchases total output
  • Constructed in 1911, the facility was refurbished and put back into service in 2009

Neenah-Menasha Sewerage project

  • Engine generator set installed at wastewater treatment plant of Menasha Utilities, a member of WPPI Energy
  • Generating capacity – .3 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases total output of the project
  • Commercial operation began in 2002

Outagamie Clean Energy landfill-biogas project

  • Electric power generated from waste gas at a landfill in Outagamie County, Wisconsin
  • Three low-emission generators, each capable of producing 1,600 kilowatts of electricity
  • WPPI Energy purchases total output of the project, 4.8 MW
  • Commercial operation began in early 2007
  • Power is delivered to the electric distribution system of Kaukauna Utilities, a member of WPPI Energy

Top of Iowa II

  • Wind energy facility located in Joice, Iowa
  • Project size – 80 MW
  • WPPI Energy purchases 50 MW
  • Owned and operated by Iberdrola Renewable Energies USA, Inc.
  • Commercial operation began December 31, 2007
